Mánes Folk Ensemble was founded in the year
1945. Originaly it was made up of only
a small group of young enthusiasts. In the course of years it has
developed into todays 30 member group. The ensemble cooperates with
professionals, but it is based on enthusiastic amateurs, who find
folklor a counter- balance of present technical and hasty time.
Folk ensemble MÁNES ranks among the most
famous folk groups in the Czech Republic. It is located in Prostìjov, an
old town at the heart of fertile Haná Region, in eastern part of our
country. In the past the local people created an
original Haná culture which hasinspired today´s
ensemble programme. The Haná culture is typical for its good taste and
sense of humor.
The original Haná folk
costume is one of the most beautiful products of folk art.
It combines the majestic nobility of royal fashion of the
renaissance and baroque period with lively coloured style of
ordinary people. Skilled hands of local women made the Haná folk
costume a real piece of art.
The programme of MÁNES Folk Ensemble, which
cooperates with Haná Region Folk music „Jeèmeni“
includes dances and songs rooted in simple life of rural people in Haná
Region. All
programme sections, such as „Welcome of Spring,
Wedding, Army service, Feast and
a Carnival“ are full of ordinary life - work, love and joy.
